Return
of the Prodigal Son
Bronze
20 x 17 x 13 inches
The son, after squandering his inheritance, returns home repentant and begging
to be a servant in his father’s household. His father forgives and embraces
him, and restores him to full son-ship. The father’s robe, red in Rembrandt’s
painting, symbolizes the blood of Christ which covers our sin. The exhausted
son grasps the robe, holding on to the grace which envelops him.
